Professional Background

Peter Richman Ph.D:

 Dr. Peter Richman is an experienced licensed psychologist. He works with individuals, couples and groups.  He is a graduate of the New York Center for Psychoanalytic Training and the group therapy program at the Postgraduate Center for Mental Health.  As Associate Director of The Institute for Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy of New Jersey (1984-2000), he was a leader in developing the highest standards for training psychotherapists and psychoanalysts. He is currently a senior faculty member at the Institute.

 

Dr. Richman practices with individuals and couples dealing with issues of anxiety depression, shame and guilt - the basic obstacles to a happy and productive life.  These issues are often expressed through difficult and conflictual relationships in love and work.   He teaches a range of clinical and theoretical courses and supervises advanced candidates in the training program.

Deborah Richman LCSW:

 Deborah Richman, LCSW, is a licensed clinical social worker, and a licensed marriage and family counselor.  She has had many years of experience at a major mental health center as a therapist and supervisor.  Mrs. Richman currently maintains a clinical practice and serves on the boards of several organizations for people with mental illness. Her practice encompasses therapy with families, individuals, couples and multi-family groups. 

Mrs. Richman has received extensive training in family therapy, in hypnosis, and in brief techniques of solution focused as well as in cognitive-behavorial methods of treatment. These techniques are well suited to the needs of people suffering from anxiety, depression or relationship issues.

She also has a special interest in working with people who have major mental illness using psycho-educational and social skills building approaches to aid them in their recovery.  She provides important information to families who have a loved one with mental illness, and assists them in developing methods of coping more effectively with the illness.
